Objectives: The first objective of this study was to closely examine the characteristics of children with divorced parents through existing studies and to develop a solution-focused group program that applied effective play and reading interventions for the children based on the philosophy of solution-focused approaches. The second objective was to explore the effects of the solution-focused group programs on the psychological adaptation of children with divorced parents.
Methods: In order to evaluate the psychological adaptation of the children participating in the study, the researchers conducted a pre-test with the children before they participated in the first session and a post-test after they finished the last session. The researchers also conducted a follow-up test two months after the program ended. Finally, the researchers conducted a mixed two-way ANOVA to verify the differences between the participating group and the control group.
Results: Children who participated in the solution-focused group program showed significantly higher positive divorce recognition and significantly lower anxiety than the children in the control group. These effects were still evident 2 months after the program ended. Differences in resilience and depression between the participating group and the control group were not statistically significant.
Conclusions: This solution-focused group program was effective for improving divorce recognition and decreasing anxiety.
